Large Events
The largest event ever held on Maui was the visit, in April of 2007, of His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama. If you were on Maui at the time, you were aware of a palpable ambient peace. Not only were there close to 400 volunteers to organize (with help from the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's volunteer/security manager), the event required every volunteer to pass a security screening.
As the volunteer manager for the event, I spent dozens of hours in pre-event meetings and site walk-throughs along with many more hours required to effectively communicate the what, where & when details to each volunteer.

"Dear Keith - Firstly I want to thank you. I was impressed with every contact I had with you. You are calm, kind, relaxed and very efficient. It was the most amazing volunteer experience because of you. Also, it was wonderful to have so many volunteers, so that it seemed easy and totally covered. The event left me speechless and totally grateful to His Holiness and everyone involved." -- Marion H., Volunteer for the April '07 Maui visit by His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama
The Maui Film Festival is a large event, not just because each day utilizes up to 135 volunteers at 5-7 venues, but because its 5 days in a row of 16 hour days.
If you're planning an event of such a scale, rest assured that we are well prepared to staff, train, and inspire the kind of volunteer army that Maui Film Festival Director, Barry Rivers, calls "the WD-40 of the festival".
